Sunday, June 5, the 13 Hours of France 2 makes discover a Cistercian abbey ofAubazine in Corrèze. This place is certainly little known, but the great Coco Chanel lived there.
It is a monument steeped in history, built almost a millennium ago. The Cistercian abbey of Aubazine, in Corrèze, is a place littered on the hillside, surrounded by many trees and green landscapes. The abbey had several functions, in particular it served as an orphanage. The place attracts many tourists, both in spring and summer. Still inhabited by five nuns, the abbey was previously occupied by more than 200 people. Coco Chanel was part of this orphanage and, by the way, appreciated the place to which she returned several times.
If the grandeur of the Abbey is majestic, this is not the only attraction of this oh-so-special place. A fountain built by monks is also steeped in history as well as a pond that was once used for fishing and which is connected to a small stream of the Corrèze. All these places form a pleasant ensemble for visitors. « It’s true that we are lost in the depths of the Corrèze and I would never have thought, indeed, to find such a wonderful site », reports a visitor to the place.
